Dell precision does not respond to printer plugged into ECP printer parallel port LPT1?
I have a Dell Precision computer. I have a HP 2550L Laser Jet printer. The printer does not print correctly when plugged into the USB port so I tried to use the Parallel port. But the computer does not see the printer.
I already uninstalled the printer port and rebooted. I uninstalled the printer software and tried to reinstall, but the software does not see the printer.
In device manager, it says that the printer port is working correctly.
I am lost does anybody have a clue how to fix this issue?
I am assuming ECP Printer port (LPT1) is the parallel port. In the device manager, the ECP printer port is enabled.
Enable the parallel port in the BIOS. It may be disabled. You may also need to configure it as bi-directional or ECP. Save the settings and exit the BIOS.
If you are getting garbled characters via USB sounds like you have either corrupt printer drivers or you have it set to a different print standard like Postscript, Printer Control Language ( PCL ) or Graphics Design Interface ( GDI ). Check the printer properties by right clicking above the printer icon. Also make sure it’s set as default.
If you manage to get the parallel port working and the print out comes our garbled again go to the manufactures website and download the drivers directly from them under their support section.
Try right clicking on the printer itself in the printer directory and see if you can find a “ports” tab. If you do make sure you check mark the proper ports there too.
Have you tried printing a test page with the parallel port ?
As far as using the CD for the installation sometimes the CD becomes corrupt and that is why you should download the latest drivers from the manufacture directly.
Try again with the USB, hook it up to a different port. By the way some printers require you to install the software first then connect so it detects it and proceed with the installation.
