In most cases, this connection will be fine. However, there are some cases in which the connections are different. There are two connections for monitors, one VGA and DVI called a call. VGA is usually a blue plug with pins from the monitor to a harbor blue with holes in the back of the computer. DVI is similar, except it is typically a white cap and port. There are other visual differences between the two, and probably can find a picture of them on Wikipedia. If the computer and the monitor has no match plug and port, then you can not connect. VGA is found on older CRT monitors and some flat panels. High-end flat panels, especially the wide screen, have DVI-only. On computers, a VGA port is the most common, but most video cards, such as high end flat panels, have DVI-only.
