You can bring easily. If they ask you about the laptop, u can simply say I’ll be going back in about 8 months, so I need it for my use. Laptop has to fall under personal usage commodity, so no issues with airport authority people if you can convince them that you are going to get it back.
Per Indian customs laws, one is allowed to carry a laptop for personal use.
So, there should not be a problem. In my past couple of visits, I have noticed that customs people do not bother about laptops anymore.
Ok, it seems the rules have changed and a laptop is now allowed. So nothing to worry.
